The Most Immersive Activities to Do on Halloween 2019

October had almost evaporated into November and the air temperature was noticeably cooler.

Halloween has fallen and the homes were more elaborately decorated for all the extra time and attention: garages had become demonic dungeons, severed limbs poked from closed doors and dire warnings to trespassers were pasted dripping red paint.

Immersive experiences, is the name of the game this Halloween, and do we have a list of activities for you to go through.

Meme’s the theme: The Curtain’s Night of the Living Meme

Adding a bit of cultural topicality to Halloween this year is Shoreditch members’ club The Curtain, which is throwing open its doors to the public to host a meme-themed Halloween party. Dress as your favourite internet meme from 2019 and prepare to dance the night away to 80s, disco and Italo tunes, mixed by Jarreau Vandal and poundlandbandit.

Where: The Curtain club, 45 Curtain Road, London, EC2A 3PT

When: 2 November, 9PM – 2AM

Scary CSI: Crime Scene Live at the Natural History Museum

Jump into your body suit and join the Natural History Museum’s forensics experts in a live crime scene investigation. You will help collect the evidence and analyse the facts to hunt down a killer who’s still on the loose. Do you have what it takes to crack the case? If you want to find out, you’d better book your space quickly. This event will sell out faster than you can say ‘whodunnit’.

Take in some classic horror at a pop-up cinema in the historic twilit Rivoli Ballroom. The only one of its kind in London, the ballroom was, in fact, originally a cinema before it was converted to a dance hall in the 1950s. Famed for its plush furnishings and fittings, the space has appeared in several films itself. This October, it will be playing host to a series of spooky films in the week leading up to Halloween, kicking off with A Nightmare on Elm Street and ending with a showing of The Shining. Lose Yourself to Dance: London’s Top Concerts in September 2019

The summer festival season might have come to an end with its obligatory August bank holiday blowout, but that doesn’t mean London is lowering the music volume anytime soon. In fact, many artists are dusting themselves down from a summer on the festival circuit, and heading out on solo tours.

There are some incredible shows taking place in the capital throughout September, from arena-rock titans to West African dance icons.

From 80s guitar heroes to once-banned rappers, these are the gigs you need to know about.

ANDREYA TRIANA – 17 SEPT

The acclaimed soul-jazz singer, also known for her work with downtempo dance dude Bonobo and LA hip hop beatmaker Flying Lotus, plays a hometown show at Hackney’s fab new arts and music venue. It should be pretty dreamy.

Location: EartH (Evolutionary Arts Hackney)

Time: 12:00am

KHALID – 17 SEPT

The Texan R&B wunderkind swings into town for an arena show in support of this year’s ‘Free Spirit’ album. Support comes from local pop queens Mabel (‘Don’t Call Me Up’) and Raye (‘You Don’t Know Me’), so this is a tasty night all round.

Location: The O2

Time: 12:00am

Julia Michaels –  17 SEPT

This US singer-songwriter is a serious talent: she’s written hits for Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez and Britney Spears, and scored a couple of big ones of her own with ‘Issues’ and Clean Bandit collab ‘I Miss You’. Catch her showing off her quirky pop chops at this mid-sized headline gig.

Location: O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Time: 12:00am

TYLER, THE CREATOR 16, 17, 18 SEPT

No longer banned from these shores, Tyler, The Creator is celebrating in a big way with three headline shows in Brixton.

Location: O2 Academy Brixton

Time: 7:00pm

HOSPITALITY IN THE PARK – 21 SEPT

Heavyweight D&B shaking Finsbury Park

The hefty dance party organised by south London drum and bass label Hospital Records returns to Finsbury Park for a fourth year. Surprisingly enough, D&B is set to be the main focus. Although the line-up is yet to be announced, expect a carefully chosen collection of old-school masters, big-hitting names and newer blood. One for the party-heads.

 Location: Finsbury Park

Time: 12:00am

ORCHESTRA UNWRAPPED – 26 SEPT

The BBC Concert Orchestra teams up with conductor Alice Farnham and Tom Service, presenter of BBC Radio 3’s The Listening Service, to explore the multi-faceted role of an orchestra in the 21st century.

Audience members help to recreate the lively spirit of the first performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 31 – concert halls were much noisier environments in the 19th century! Tom Service leads the BBC Concert Orchestra through orchestral experimentation of past eras to some of the most recognisable and emotive pieces of film music from Harry Potter, Jaws and Psycho.

Exploring the function of an orchestra includes ceremonial purposes, practical uses in the pit, as well as some theme tunes and symbols of national unity thrown in along the way.

This concert’s colourful variety shows that the orchestral line-up is still evolving and its role ever changing.

Location: Queen Elizabeth Hall

London Fashion Week: What’s new, What’s Fresh

London Fashion Week-Mowbray Court Hotel London

As London Fashion Week (LFW) looms ever closer, new formats, campaigns, and events come along with it; the first being the British Fashion Council’s (BFC) announcement that this year’s event will be the first of the four global fashion weeks to open its doors to the public.

If you’re traveling to London for the occasion and need a place to stay, a budget-friendly hotel near Kensington might be a great option to keep your costs low while staying close to all the action.

When is London Fashion Week?

London Fashion Week Kicking off on the 12th of September 2024, LFW will offer dedicated experiences for both a trade and public audience through one dynamic schedule, further blurring the lines of what was traditionally known as a global trade platform.

Known for its creativity and innovation, London Fashion Week attracts an audience of press, buyers, and industry professionals from over 50 countries who come to London to explore and discover the best creative talent; from emerging designers to heritage labels and internationally recognized fashion houses.

In response to the ever-changing fashion landscape and the growing public interest in London Fashion Week, the BFC is launching a new Fashion Week format to increase engagement and reach new audiences for designer businesses.

The London Fashion Week schedule will now facilitate two audiences.

TRADE AUDIENCE

The trade audience will attend on-schedule catwalk shows and presentations routinely across the 5 days of London Fashion Week from 12th – 17th September 2024.

THE PUBLIC AUDIENCE

The public audience will be able to purchase a ticket to an immersive LFW experience that will include a selection of designers that will showcase six ticketed catwalk shows which will take place at the official London Fashion Week Hub, on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2024.

People can also visit and witness creative installations, industry-led talk panels from experts offering unparalleled insights into the fashion industry, the DiscoveryLAB, an experiential space where fashion meets art, technology, and music, and a brand new Designer Exhibition, where the creative work of progressive designers explores the most compelling stories around sustainability, community, and ethics.

As part of the new London Fashion Week proposition, the Designer Exhibition will relaunch and will fully embrace #PositiveFashion, the BFC’s initiative designed to celebrate industry best practices and encourage future business decisions to create positive change.

The Designer Exhibition will be open to both trade and public audiences and will be the place where guests discover new creative brands and progressive designers, explore compelling stories and learn about how the fashion industry can be used as a force for change.

#PositiveFashion is led by three pillars: Sustainability, Equality & Diversity, Craftsmanship & Community and London Fashion Week is inviting designers to tell their story, showcase how products are made, and bring their brands and stories to life for a trade and public audience alike.

The celebration of London Fashion Week does not live solely within the hub.

It will extend to a city-wide celebration of activations and events that the BFC will curate in partnership with key retailers, cultural institutions, brands, and partners to engage communities throughout the capital to get involved and capitalize on the success of this global event to reach new audiences.

The aim is to inspire young people and make #LFW a cultural city-wide celebration that will introduce fashion to a wider pool of people who may not have previously engaged with it or understand the incredible careers and opportunities that the industry holds.

New this season, the British Fashion Council will host the London Fashion Week schedule within the LetsBab app, allowing attendees to receive up-to-the-minute schedule updates and show start times through notifications on the go.

The British Fashion Council has also announced that both House of Holland and Self-Portrait will stage public shows during London Fashion Week. The designers will showcase their autumn/winter 2024 collections during three different time slots on Sunday 15 September.

This new format makes a big change for LFW, helping it to become more accessible to the wider public. The designers taking part in the public-facing shows will change every season.

Conclusion:

London Fashion Week offers a thrilling look at the future of fashion. Whether you’re attending a show or just soaking up street style, this event brings a fresh wave of creativity to the city. And if you’re looking for a comfortable and affordable hotel near all the action, the Mowbray Court Hotel in London is a perfect choice to consider. It’s close to public transport, giving you easy access to London Fashion Week venues without breaking the bank.
